I’ve been getting asked a lot, “what is your favorite almond milk brand?” While there are some good providers out there (Newbarn is great), there is nothing better than the milk you make at home. So, I thought i’d take the time to share how to make homemade almond milk for those that may not know just how easy it is!
Store bought nut milks almost always have preservatives of some kind, most often disguised as a “gum” or carrageenan. These can leave you feeling bloated and sometimes mess with your digestive system. Not to mention, many store bought brands have added sugar, which we’ve established is a NO NO.
Good news! I’ve been making almond milk at home for years and it’s actually SUPER easy.
All Natural Homemade Almond Milk
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Raw Almonds Soaked overnight
- 2 Cups Distilled Water
- 1 tsp cinnamon optional
- 1/4 tsp vanilla optional
- 1 pinch sea salt optional
Instructions
-
Soak the almonds in water overnight or up to 2 days.
Remove the almonds from the water, rinse, and place in the blender with distilled water
Blend on high speed for about 2 minutes until the mixture looks white.
Pour the nutty mixture through a nut bag or piece of cheese cloth into a bowl or pitcher to catch the strained mixture.
At this time I like to add cinnamon and vanilla to taste but you can have fun with this! Add dates, turmeric, nutmeg, allspice, maple syrup, stevia, anything. If you’ve added spices, I throw the thin mixture back into the blender with the spices and pulse just to get it all mixed up but that’s optional.
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for about a week and enjoy
Better news! I created a step by step guide on how to make homemade almond milk.
TIP!
Don’t throw away the pulp that’s left behind in the nut bag. That will come in handy for energy balls (recipe coming soon!). I can not STAND to waist food and the energy balls are deliciousness so hang on to that stuff.
Wondering where to find the nut bag? Or other related projects? Most are available on Amazon:
Hope you enjoy!
xx, Jess
